A Stumble in the Right Direction

"We've been rambling all the night, And sometime of this day; And now returning back again, We bring a garland gay. A garland gay we bring you here; And at your door we stand; It is a sprout well budded out, The work of our Lord's hand." I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to find a “random” quote when looking online as I have not yet been able to get a copy of The Golden Bough. The part of this quote that jumped out at me was “We’ve been rambling all the night, And sometime of this day…” It seems that these words are a great way to begin a class that will spark every person’s thoughts from now on, night and day.

The idea that Dr. Sexson presented about every thought we had having already been thought or done before relates directly to this quote.  I cannot quite figure out the right way to phrase this, but I do believe that the idea of a self fulfilling prophecy jumped straight to the forefront of my mind last Thursday after class.  With the idea planted about walking to class and splitting a lip open, my afternoon seemed to perfectly fit that mold:

It was like any Thursday would be after class, just a simple walk home.  I slipped and stumbled on the westbound side of College Street somewhere between Gaines Hall and my home.  I did not fall and split open my lip, but then again, the tale has just begun.  As I reached my apartment, I got in my car and turned straight back to campus, wanting as much time to practice my music before my auditions as I could muster.  Passing by the minuscule minutes of monotonously playing my horn, my bottom lip busted open, only to make me laugh.

With my afternoon of fulfilling the idea of no idea is a new idea, I conversed with one of my classmates, Kyle Crawford, and spoke for hours and hours, night and day, about the realization that there are so many levels of understanding that have already happened, and whether there are things yet to be understood for a first time.  I am not yet convinced, but it does seem after reading some other blogs the chances are to that of mythologies—most ideas probably have been around and will continue to be around.

I wonder what else I will stumble upon as newly-found-to-me knowledge.
